Assistive Technology tutorial 7

In tutorial 7 our class was lucky enough to have two very knowledgeable people come and talk to us about assistive technology. Below i will briefly explain what assistive technology is, i then will be discusing one peice of equipment which i found very interesting in the tutorial.
Assistive technology is Any item, piece of equipment, or system, that is used to increase, maintain, or improve functional capabilities of individuals (Cook & Hussey, 2002)
A piece of equipment that i found interesting was the GoTalks. Gotalks are battery powered communication (AAC) devices used by people who can not communicate well by speaking. Another person records a message, any message the user will likely need.
If the user is unable to communicate by themself, this Gotalk will help give them Independence and a sense of satisfaction, as they are able to communicate effectively by them self. The Gotalk could be used in a situation where the user goes to the supermarket to buy some milk and bread. (somebody would record messages in to the go talk, for example, ..Where could i find the milk?.. how much will that cost... etc and the user would just need to push the correct button for the voice to replay)
